One area where homeopathy should be given acknowledgement and recognition by the government in general and the medical profession in particular relates to the diseases of the kidneys. Homeopathy can help avoid surgeries and other mechanical methods of treatment. Even in advanced cases of renal insufficiency, homeopathy can help reduce the frequency of dialysis.
Resort to surgery and other mechanical methods in treating kidney problems is quite common in Pakistan. This is not to deny the importance of surgery and other methods such as URS, PNCL, ESWL, etc., but such practices should be resorted to only when extremely necessary. Invasive methods, no matter how minimal, should be avoided as far as possible. Homeopathy has effective medicines for conditions ranging from kidney stones to renal insufficiency.
Here are some cases ranging from stones in the kidney to CKD to post renal transplantation problems. Most cases, particularly of kidney stones were cured, many were helped beneficially, and some did not benefit.
The cases have been edited for clarity:
Case No. 1
Lessons from a case-history of a patient of kidney-stone
Mrs. ZY 36 years October 29, 2015
The patient, initially, had visited three months or so back. She had a large calculus (stone) in the right kidney and was advised to undergo surgery without wasting time – so finally underwent surgery in Kidney Centre, Karachi, on September 09, 2015.
Had renal pain some 15 years back. Used homoeopathic combination R-27 of Dr. Reckeweg & Company, Germany. It removed the pain but the disease kept on growing insidiously. Later, some tests were done and it transpired that she had a stone. Two lithotripsy sessions and three attempts through URS to remove the stone did not yield any result.
Post surgery report dated 30-09-2015 shows a simple cyst at upper and mid pole of left kidney, measuring 2.1 x 1.6 cm
Pain right lumbar – nausea with the pain
Low haemoglobin levels
Urine DR dated 27-10-2015 shows presence of Protein 6, Glucose 28++, Urobilinogen 3.2, Haemoglobin moderate++, Leucocytes Esterase small+, Bacteria few
Serum urea and Creatinine levels were highly raised.
The stone has been removed but the damage it has caused may not be reversible. The raised levels of urea and creatinine in the blood and presence of protein, glucose, etc., in the urine point to the irreversible damage caused to the kidneys.
Lesson: Pain in kidneys should not be neglected. It should not be self-treated. There is a general assumption that homoeopathic medicines do not have side effects. That is not correct. Homoeopathic medicines if taken inappropriately and without professional advice can have side effects. Besides, self-medication delays recourse to proper treatment and causes damage to the health.
Case No. 2
Concretions in kidney
Mr. AZ, 22 years
Pain right lumbar for three years on and off – doctors prescribe pain killers whenever he visits them
But the latest episode was severe and was taken to a doctor who prescribed drips and pain killers.
U/s datd 18-10-2015 shows multiple concretions of variable size
Pain both lumbars, worse right, drawing/pressing/squeezing comes forward
Restless sleep, changes sides frequently, with open eyes
Occasionally urinary burning
Kidney disease runs in the family. His Dada underwent kidney transplant at the age of 55 years
Result: Homeopathy helped as after a year the patient visited for some other problem
Case No. 3
Chronic kidney disease
Mr. MA 54 years
Having suffered for 30 years with kidney stones and chronic kidney disease, the patient had been advised to undergo kidney transplant.
According to the narration of the patient, he had the tendency to form calculi (stones) in right kidney. First surgery was in 1992 for right ureter stone which measured about 1.5 cm. DJ stent planted in 1993 and several lithotripsy sessions at Taj Medical Complex and Ziauddin Hospital. According to the reports, DJ stent was replaced in 2005-2006 and removed on March 31, 2015. In the meantime, he also underwent PNCL (PCNL is a procedure to remove stones). On chemical analysis, one surgically removed stone showed its composition as 66% calcium oxalate, 15% calcium phosphate, 06% cystine and 07% organic material.
According to the reports, Left kidney is fine and functions at 86.9%, compensating for the under-functioning right kidney (13.1%)
and finally he was advised to have his right kidney removed.
During a period of 11 months, there were 7 visits, the patient generally felt better, quality of his sleep improved. The laboratory values of uric acid, creatinine, urea, etc, ranged between normal and slightly above normal. If there was indiscretion in food, the values increased but afterwards came down.
Result: Homeopathy effectively helped to manage the problem
Case No. 4
Post-renal transplantation problems
Miss FQ 18 years
Underwent kidney transplant procedure in Islamabad in 2011. Her father volunteered to donate his right kidney.
Prior to her birth, mother had undergone tubal ligation, which was undone later
Had shrunk left kidney at birth
After the transplant, has been doing well but has recently got elevated Creatinine levels. The current reading is 5.5.
Elevated creatinine, urea, uric acid, levels, Urine D/R reports shows Blood occult ++, Red cells 10-12, Leucoctyes 8-10 Swelling face, upper parts of the body, legs, nodes different parts, constipation, pain joints, obesity
Feels heated, Bathes three or four times a day

Case No. 5
Stone measuring 0.8 cm at right uretrovesical junction in a patient of 25 years
March 01, 2003 (088/03)
Calculus (stone) at right uretrovesical junction measuring about 0.8 cm. No pain, no burning in the urine. Experiences pain only when he drinks much.
Slow urinary stream. Urine D/R dated showed 8-10 pus cells and Specific Gravity was 1.025 which in a subsequent report improved.
An Ultrasound done after 15 days’ medication showed a slightly decreased size of the stone at 0.76 cm and the stone had moved to the vesicourethral junction from its earlier position of uretrovesical junction.
By the grace of Allah, the patient passed the stone at 11-30 today. He had pain since the morning – 4.30 a.m. – pain was intense. He drank plenty of water and at last the stone was passed. This caused slight bleeding and burning. The patient visited today. No medicine. Advised to drink plenty of water.
Result: Homeopathy helped
